Congratulations to all three teams for making the final series in their respective division, it has been a very successful state cup this year for Balmain.
Balmain u20s girls won the Bowl Final Series in their Grand Final to Muswellbrook 6-4! Well done, champions! You have done this club proud. A team of up and coming juniors has put the club in good stead for years to come. Their squad was strengthened when two Wagga Wagga pool players joined, Rhiannon Podmore and Sophie Crouch, looking for a team to play with in the State Cup. They were coached by club president and very experienced campaigner Paul Robinson, aptly supported by assistant coach Pat Digiglio, who had coached most of them in the juniors.
Balmain Senior Mixed went down in the Championship Grand Final to Murwillumbah 3-9. Undefeated, until the last hurdle. It's the 3rd year in a row where they have not finished on top and is a testament to the quality of teams entering this division year on year. Hold your head high, it is an achievement in itself to make the grand final, you are still the 2nd best in the state. Coached for the first time by Terry Joe, and supported by his wife, assistant coach, Johanne Tuatai Joe.
Balmain Open Mens went down in the Open B Shield Series in their Semi Final to Parramatta 6-7. A great achievement for a side that's full of rookies. A mix bag across the team in experience but a team that came together and gelled well together in such a short time. Thanks to Wayne Calleja for stepping up and coaching at such short notice!
A fantastic and very successful campaign for the largest Balmain contingent in over a decade. Thank you all for participating and representing the club. Special thanks to all our sponsors!
Last word from the coaches, coming soon.
